Second Wave Tripods

Information that helps - Second Wave Tripods

Up to now Second Wave offers three different tripod models. All models name refer to the weight load of the tripod. So does the model 8 carry up to 8 kg of payload, the Model 13 can carry up to 13 kg and the Model 20 carry up to 20 kg.

The weight load is the whole load which comes on the tripod. So it is not only the camera weight but also everything which had been mounted on the on the camera, as for example light, microphone or a rig. The payload is realy important as when you have a higher payload it can become difficult to handle the tripod / camera system.

About our larger tripods: yes the difference is in the main the weight. We sell many teleprompters and there you have to consider the weight of the teleprompter and the camera together. This can easily add up to 10-15 kg.

I like to compare buying a tripod with buying shoes. They have to fit 100%.If you are not 100% shure you like what you get do not buy them. That's the reason why I'm very happy that we now offer the Model 8, a small tripod that is suitable for small teleprompters / camera units. You don't have to worry about the robustness and durability. The Model 8 will accompany you for a long time.

All our Second Wave tripods are also compatible with the Second Wave Dolly, which makes the tripod movable.
This is very practical and efficient when using the tripod in the studio, for example, allowing you to move quickly from point A to point B without having to remove and rebuild everything.

One of our dealer compares Second Wave tripods with tripods they carry: Libec TH-X tripod - with a 65mm head - we sell for about 240 EUR net; OK, our Model 8 costs net 249 €, but for that price you get a really professional tripod. Model 8 have a payload of 8 kg. That means if you want to use a small Teleprompter as for example the PAL 12 you do not need to buy a new tripod.

Sorry I forgot to say: the TH-X has a payload of 4 kg // the second Wave Model 8 has 8 kg. And another sorry but the TH-X looks unstable.

The THX has a 65 mm head and the Model 8 an 100 mm head. That means when you work with the small head everything is - for me - also semi professional. With the Model 8 you get the full professional opportunities. Which are for example a smooth camera movement. Thats what I want as a Pro.

Comparision with the low cost Sachtler serie: Sachtler System ACE.

Sachtler have really good tripods since a long time and I really like them. Professionals who works with Sachtler and are used to it will to change. So will compare here just price and payload.

The Sachtler ACE Model M MS cost 679 € nt and have a payload of 4 kg // Second Wave Model 8 costs 249 € and has a payload of 8 kg.

The Sachtler ACE XL MS AL costs 1204 € and have a payload of 8 kg // Second Wave Model 12 costs 399 € and have a payload of 13 kg // Second Wave Model 20 cost 899 and have a payload of 20 kg.

This speaks for itself.
